About WinterCreek Nursery

WinterCreek Nursery is a full service nursery specializing in native plants of the high desert. Our goal is to produce high quality native plant nursery stock for a wide range of clients from homeowners to architects and contractors. We strive to maintain genetic diversity in our plant material in order to provide the best in adaptability and resilience for our customers. We offer design advice, help in plant selection for specific projects, or recommendations for habitat creation.

WinterCreek started in 1993 with the vision to provide native plants as an alternative for homeowners and contractors interested in working outside the norm. Over the following 30 years, WinterCreek grew to be the largest native plant nursery in central Oregon, and still propagates nearly 200 native species from seed collected throughout the dryland west by our own crew.

In early 2024, WinterCreek Nursery became an integral part of the High Desert Horticultural Center. WinterCreek continues to provide plants to retail and wholesale customers, but profits now support our mission and the work of the HDHC.

Seed Collection and Propagation

The majority of our plants are propagated at WinterCreek from seed or cuttings collected by our nursery staff.  Most species are collected within Crook, Jefferson, or Deschutes counties, but we occasionally collect seed during outings throughout the intermountain west.  Our availability list inventories plants currently offered, but call the nursery if you don't see a species you're looking for.

With a little lead time, we can provide large quantities of individual species to meet project requirements.  We also offer site specific propagule collection to provide genetic material adapted to the project location -- a common specification for restoration or rehabilitation contracts.
