Tune in Monday, May 13 at 12pm to Think Out Loud to hear an interview with our founder, Rick Martinson and the City of Bend's Water Conservation Program Manager, Dan Denning. They will discuss upcoming statewide changes regarding water availability from municipalities and how the City of Bend will be implementing changes, including a revisions of the development code that incorporates the use of native plants in commercial projects.
Plant highlight:
Sand-Lily (Leucocrinum montanum)
The desert is an astounding place. Baked in the blazing sun and whipped by arid wind, its life manages to not just hold on but burst with beauty . One of the miracles of this time of year in the High Desert is the Sand-lily (Leucocrinum montanum). OregonFlora.org explains how this plant "flourishes" in our driest soils, completely withering away to invisibility after blooming until the next Spring.
Volunteer Opportunities
Nursery Crew
No dirt of your own, to tend? No problem! We have transplanting, garden maintenance, weeding, and watering opportunities galore. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff can't wait to meet you. We'll have limited shifts available to start, but we will expand opportunities as we get organized.
Shifts will be scheduled for 9am - 12pm on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings, depending on volunteer availability.
We are currently recruiting for mission-aligned individuals with strategic and implementation skills, a commitment to DEI, and expertise in fundraising and/or finance. This is a working board focused on strategy and growth through the start-up phase. See our listing on Connect Central Oregon for more information.
Our Earth Day debut was a hit!
It was thrilling to speak with the many visitors (including a variety of pollinators) to our booth at the Earth Day celebration on April 20, our public debut! We are energized by the enthusiasm. Keep an eye out for new installments of baby Big Sage about town.
